Adventure

Brooke Goudy is an athlete, bicycle advocate. She is the operational manager and owner of Rowdy Goudy, a health and wellness organization dedicated to introducing cycling to women of color, and redefining what it means to participate in active living. Her love for biking extends to conservation and advocacy for trails, and serves as a member of IMBA's Trails are Common Ground.

Representation matters and so does making long term policies and laws that break down barriers for marginalized communities to enjoy nature in any way that they see fit. Brooke serves on the Denver Mayor Advisory board, and is a member of the Denver Parks and Recreation Technical Advisory Committee. Having a seat at these tables allows her to identify the communities' needs, and prioritize opportunities to support equity, inclusion, and diversity in outdoor adventure sports.

During the summer of 2021, she rode the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route and developed a love and enthusiasm for bikepacking, and continues to participate in long distance endurance challenges like the Westfjords Way Challenge, 960 kilometers/ 595 miles around Iceland's most beautiful and remote landscape.

Yeti bike of choice - why?
I love the ARC. Its a great ride for bikepacking. The hardtail are not dead and can find a place in the world of bikepacking when you just need a bike that is durable, easy, and more comfortable than a full rigid. It also sparks a bit of nostalgia in me, a reminder of how simply life use to be on the bike and those first days I spent on my first mountain bike, that was indeed a hardtail.
What is your first memory on a bike?
Bikes equal freedom and my first memory is of me riding my bike and exploring the neighborhood until the street lights came on (that was my curfew). I was no more than nine or ten and it was so freeing to be able to visit with neighbor after neighbor and collect snack after snack. It felt like being an adult wothout the real responsibility and all the fun.
What is your biggest source of inspiration outside of mountain biking?
I am inspired by people who show up. They never quit, but continue to show up everyday and in every way. They fall and get right back up.
A word of advice to the groms?
Be yourself! Fuck it if they can't accept the person you are. Find your community or build your own.
Speed or Style?
I like the flow. I like it fast and "flowy." I am getting excited about doing more cross country this year and find some chill trails that I can just crank forever.
Top 3 riding destinations?
I went out to France to ride at a bike park next door to Chamonix. Wow, that was a change in scenery. It was not too technical, but it was fast and it was beautiful. You got to ride in the French Alps. Its worth it. Bentonville is fun. The trail builders have done a great job and it feels like safe trails to progress. I went back home to Alabama and found some trails. What made them so great was the people. When I lived there no one was really into mountain bikes, but now seeing so many people building trails and bike parks blows my mind.
