Sustaining Engineer

General Summary:

We are looking for a smart, humble, creative, detail-oriented, hard-working individual to work closely with our engineering design team to ensure new bicycle frame and component designs are appropriately introduced into stable production, take the necessary steps to guarantee product quality during this transition and support any engineering related efforts during commercialization and launch as well as throughout the lifecycle of the product.

The ability to complete projects on time, manage detailed information, and communicate efficiently both internally and externally are critical to this position. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Process, Manufacturing or Quality Engineering with a focus on consumer products. We are looking for someone who cares about the details with the following attributes:

Essential Job Functions:
  • Act as the primary liaison between Engineering and Operations for product in production.
  • Manage any running changes to product in production
    o   Update 2D drawings and any other documentation (BOM/EV, Manual, SOP)
    o   Manage communication with vendors and purchasing
  • Work closely with Assembly and Purchasing to manage any Engineering related issues that arise during mass production.  Resolve or escalate when appropriate.
  • Lead any continuous improvement exercises to product in production.
  • Acts as primary point of contact in Engineering for any assembly challenges or systemic warranty issues.
  • Assist with product launch assets such as user manual documentation, certification, and compliance.
  • Create SOPs and help to train Assembly members prior to the launch and ramp up of a new product.
  • Confirm BOMs and handoff to Purchasing.
  • Identify the need, design, and fabricate any special tools and fixtures needed in Assembly.
  • Conduct fitment and dimensional checks on sample parts to ensure design intent is met.
  • Assist with first article inspections and relay feedback to vendor partners.
  • Help identify, communicate, and resolve any systemic warranty issues through corrective actions.
Software Experience:
  • Proficient in SolidWorks
  • PDM workflow (SolidWorks PDM Professional
  • Microsoft Office
Job Qualifications, Competencies, and Key Attributes:

Required:

  • Experience as a Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Quality Engineer with a focus on consumer products
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment and communicating with foreign vendors, especially Asian
  • Solid knowledge of metrology instruments, including calipers, gauges, checking fixtures and dial indicators.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Hands-on and mechanically minded with the ability to take appropriate initiative
  • Cyclist with a strong preference for dirt

Preferred:

  • Experience with fabrication, especially machining/CAM and welding
  • Experience with 3D printing

Compensation Range

$50,000-75,000 annually, depending on experience.
